Of this finger exercise, 23-year-old Fedir Samoilov, from Ukraine, wrote on Instagram: “Have [made] some progress on these mono-pockets in @climbing_space. But I need to heal my skin to try this again ????????????????”

Samoilov, a six-time Ukrainian National Champion, has been competing internationally since 2011. He has since made finals in several Lead World Cups, his best placement being third in the 2017 Villars Lead World Cup. Samoilov also crushes outside—he’s sent up to 9a (5.14d).

Be careful trying this exercise! Work up to it by training on hang boards first.
