Leave it to the Germans to construct the largest climbing gym in the world— the DAV Climbing and Bouldering Center Munich-South. It’s the type of gym you’d get lost in, with its endless rooms and 7,800 square meters of climbing surface.
Originally constructed in 1989, this mega gym has been re-done and added onto several times to include new lead and bouldering walls, training boards, children’s areas and a cafe.
Around fifteen setters are on staff to rotate the indoor routes every four months and outdoor routes every six months. DAV Climbing and Bouldering center houses around 50,000 to 60,000 holds.
Beginning in 2020, DAV climbing gym will start rebuilding the outside concrete bouldering area, an area that hasn’t been touched for 30 years. The new space will have slightly more climbing surface than the old and include another kid friendly space complete with climbing bridges and nets. A via ferrata training and practice area is also in the works.
