Last year, 24-year-old Tomoa Narasaki, from Japan, won the Bouldering World Championships for the second time. After a fourth and 22 place Lead and Speed finish, respectively, he went on to place first in the Combined World Championships as well, thus earning his Olympic berth.

Speed has never been Narasaki’s strong suit, but his contemporary beta just might be the reason new world records are set.
