Due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19, the World Indoor Climbing Summit (WICS) has been postponed. The summit, originally scheduled to take place this year, from September 16-18, will instead take place September 8-10, 2021. As originally scheduled, the summit will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

This year would have been the WICS’s third anniversary. The summit is a convention for gym owners and industry experts to collaborate, share knowledge and discuss the future of indoor climbing. The summit has grown steadily since its 2018 inauguration, which hosted nearly 300 climbing gyms owners and experts.

The WICS is not the only climbing convention to be cancelled this year. The Climbing Wall Association Summit, originally scheduled to take place earlier this year in Loveland, Colorado, is now set for next May.

As cases of coronavirus continue to rise worldwide, many future events seem up in the air. The WICS posted this hopeful message:

“We were very much looking forward to welcoming you again in Sofia, but your health and well-being will aways remain top priority for us. However, our love and anticipation for the event have now grown bigger than ever, so make sure to save the date in your calendar—we will share ideas and party harder than ever.”
